Specialist note

Shee worked as a delftware painter for Henry Delamain, an important pottery manufacturer. Soon after he gained prominence as a landscape painter and worked on a variety of subjects. In 1761, during the King's marriage celebrations in Dublin, a group of Shee's allegorical paintings, painted for the occasion, were put up to line the streets, and were highly admired. He also exhibited pictures during the first year of the Society of Artists.
