Specialist note
The design for the backs of these chairs is based on a pattern in Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 3rd. edn., 1762, pl. XIII. A set of dining-chairs of this model belonging to Lady Peck at Prehen House, near Derry is illustrated in W. Pfeiffer and M. Heron, In the Houses of Ireland, 1988, p. 144. Another set, but with straight legs, from Leixlip Castle, Co. Kildare is illustrated in J. O'Brien and D. Guinness, Great Irish Houses and Castles, 1992, p. 23.
