Specialist note
Emily and Marie Ashworth, the daughters of Captain Robert Ashworth of Shirley House, Twickenham, were to marry two brothers. Emily (d. 1863), the elder, shown standing to the left, married Sydney Cosby in 1834, while her younger sister married Sydney Cosby's brother Wellesley Pole Cosby in 1841. Emily Cosby lived with her husband at Stradbally Hall, Stradbally, Laois, Ireland, where she was greatly respected for having run soup kitchens and provided medical services to her tenants at her own expense during the Irish Potato Famine (1840-44).
