AN ITALIAN CARVED WALNUT ARMCHAIR
IN THE MANNER OF ANDREA BRUSTOLON, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The padded rectangular back and seat covered in geometric patterned upholstery, the armrests above a pair of blackamoors, on four foliate cabriole legs

Specialist note

Although of much later date, the carved figures adorning the arms of this chair are clearly inspired by the extraordinarily naturalistic work of the celebrated Venetian carver Andrea Brustolon (1622-1732), who produced a number of important suites of furniture, including one now in the Palazzo Rezzonico, Venice, and another in the Palazzo Quirinale, Rome.
