The rounded toprail probably lacking finials, above three pierced roundels carved with flower-filled vases, the circular caned seat above a carved stylised frieze and six cabriole legs joined by baluster stretchers centring on an urn-shaped finial, terminating in claw feet

Specialist note

A comparable chair with similar carved seat rail and cabriole legs is in the collection of the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (cat. no. OHO-1936-0005) and illustrated in Titus Eliëns (ed.), Domestic Interiors at the Cape and in Batavia 1602-1795, Zwolle, 2002, p. 58-59, cat nr. 7.
