SIGNED CUGNIER-LESCHOT, CIRCA 1820
Gilt-finished full-plate verge movement, glazed cuvette, skeletonized dial, white enamel chapter ring with Breguet numerals surrounding the four-color gold engraved scene of Zeus riding an Eagle flanked by Pan and a figure of a dog dressed as a man, polished hinged case with coin-edged band, dial and movement signed
60mm diam.

Specialist note

The scene depicts Zeus the King of Gods with Pan to his right and Maera to his left. Maera was a dog whose howling directed Erigone to the spot of her father's murder by Icarius. For his help Maera was placed amongst the stars by Zeus. Today the constellation is known as Procyon.
