With a double-hinged top, one with an arrangment of compartments with sliding wood lids above two doors revealing an arrangement of drawers
18½ in. (47 cm.) high; 17¾ in. (45 cm.) wide

Specialist note

A strong box of similar shape but with dyed tortoiseshell veneer below the iron work is attributed to Russia by Marian Campbell in 'Decorative Ironwork, V & A Publications 1997. fig.184. Caskets of this form occasionaly incorporated mica panels below the ironwork
