Specialist note
It is interesting to surmise how this English cupboard came to be in the Royal Collections of Austria. The Saxe-Coburg family rose to prominence in the early 19th century when the Duke Franz Friedrich Anton married his children into significant families. His youngest daughter Princess Victoire married Edward, the brother of King Geroge IV in 1818. Their daughter Victoria would become Queen of England in 1837 and would marry her cousin Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1840.
It is very unusual to find such an English cupboard made from walnut rather than the typical oak.
