Hegel had obtained a post as 'Privatdozent' at the university of Jena in the previous year under the aegis of Schelling, with whom he founded the Kritische Journal der Philosophie in 1802; the post was unsalaried, and he was often in financial straits at this period. Pontak, better known as 'teinturier du Cher', is a red grape variety once commonly grown in northern France and Germany.
