Sue Arrowsmith (b. 1968)

Delicate veils cover the surface of Arrowsmith's work. Fine ink lines, applied with infinite patience, are built up into screes of gently undulating tones that evoke falling rain or the weave of cloth - she studied textile design at Goldsmiths. Draper was painted in 1997, the same year Arrowsmith was a prizewinner at the prestigious John Moores Exhibition in Liverpool.
