linocut in colors, 1963, on Arches, signed in pencil, numbered 4/50 (there are also approximately 20 artist's proofs), published by Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris, with wide margins, pale light- and mat staining, otherwise in very good condition, framed
S. 24¾ x 17½ in. (630 x 445 mm.)

Specialist note

As are many of Picasso's linocut compositions, Jacqueline au Chapeau à Fleurs is based on an historical type of portaiture. Although no actual "original" has been identified, it belongs to a group of linocuts which use artists as diverse as Manet, Velázquez and Cranach as source material.

Unlike other linocuts of this date, this print comes from two blocks, one for the central composition, the other for the frame. The frame block was also used for Portrait d'Homme à la Fraise (B. 1148; Ba. 1320) and Portrait de Jacqueline à la Fraise (B. 1147; Ba. 1321) as well as Baer 1323, 1336, 1337.
