A BERLIN (KPM) FIGURE FROM THE HOCHZEITSUG (MARRIAGE PROCESSION)

The sculptor Adolph Amberg designed the Hochzeitszug table garniture for the marriage of the Crown Prince of Prussia in 1904. Consisting of twenty figures, two candelabra and two fruit bowls, the garniture was concieved as a procession of different peoples paying homage to the bridal couple. Intended as a silver table garniture gifted by the townspeople of Prussia, the design was rejected by the Empress Auguste Victoria who disapproved of the nudity of some of the figures. The Berlin porcelain manufactory therefore purchased the design and began production of the figures in 1908.
