The arms are those of Goldsmid, for Sir Isaac Lyon Goldsmid, 1st Baronet (1778-1859). Born in London and entering the family banking business, Goldsmid amassed a large fortune and was awarded a Portuguese baronet for his involvement in settling a monetary dispute between Portugal and Brazil. In addition, Goldsmid was a prominent founder of University College London. Goldsmid's baronecy was recognized in Britain by Royal license in 1846, making him the first unconverted Briton of Jewish ancestry to receive a hereditary title.
