Specialist note
Born in Paris in 1855, Auguste Moreau (d. 1919) studied under his father, the sculptor Mathurin Moreau, Aimé Millet, A. Dumont and J. Thomas. He exhibited at the Salon where he won a third class medal in 1877. He was awarded a Bronze Medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. He specialized in allegorical and classical figures such as the present group.
