Meiji period (late 19th century), sealed with the mark of the Komai workshop
The rectangular box with lobed corners, set on four short bracket feet and worked in gold and silver nunomezogan and hirazogan, the cover with a view of Kinkaku (Golden Pavilion) within a fretwork border with repeated sixteen-petal chrysanthemum crests, the sides of the box with repeated roundels containing various landscape scenes all over a dense ground of ivy, bordered by foliate bands; inlaid seal on base
