Woven in wools, depicting Eurydice being bitten by a snake, with courtly dressed figures in a wooded landscape, ladies in the foreground picking berries and mounted huntsmen beyond, in the background formal gardens, within a later twist spiral twist border, heightened with some surface colour

Specialist note

Eurydice, a wood nymph married to Orpheus died from a snake bite whilst fleeing a suitor. Orpheus descended to Hades and convinced Pluto to allow her to follow him back to earth, but only if Orpheus did not look back at her; at the last moment he did and Eurydice vanished forever.
