AN EXCEPTIONAL ART DECO CITRINE, EBONITE, DIAMOND AND ENAMEL "MYSTERY" CLOCK, BY CARTIER
Designed as an octagonal citrine dial, with enclosed rose-cut diamond hands and exterior rose-cut trim, the gold and blue enamel chapter ring with gold Roman numerals and dots in reserve, within a sculpted ebonite and gold frame, decorated at the corners with rose-cut diamond florets and a blue, black and white enamel motif at 6 o'clock, to the ebonite and gold base, enhanced by black enamel detail and a rose-cut diamond floret, mounted in 18k gold and platinum, circa 1920, 5 x 3 x 1¾ ins., with French assay mark and maker's mark, accompanied by a winding key
Made by Coüet, base signed Cartier, New York, E.W. & C. Co. Inc. for European Watch & Clock Company, France; side of base hand-stamped no. 191, underside of base engraved no. 507

Rectangular 8-day movement, gold-plated, Swiss lever escapement, bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Hand-setting and winding mechanism underneath the base

This model is one of the very first single-axle "Mystery" clocks produced by Cartier. In exceptional condition, this clock is a stellar testament to the exquisite craftmanship and unmatched prestige of Cartier "Mystery" clocks.
