The present watch is number 38 of a strictly limited series of only 50 examples in platinum of the "1815 Sidestep", made in 2003 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Wempe. The silver gilt calibre L944.1 movements were specially made and hand-decorated for this model.
Wempe founded in 1878 by Gerhard Diederich Wilhelm Wempe in Elsfleth, Germany, has always been a family enterprise, designing and retailing superior quality jewellery, watches and clocks. At present, the firm is managed by the third and fourth generation members Hellmut and Kim-Eva Wempe, the firm has branches throughout Europe and in New York.
