THE PORTLAND ANTIQUE SAPPHIRE, DIAMOND AND NATURAL PEARL STOMACHER BROOCH
The rectangular-shaped sapphire within old-cut diamond surround to the four sapphire and diamond foliate clusters with ribbon surmount, suspending a series of natural pearl pendent drops with a detachable triple pearl drop to the centre, mounted in silver and gold, circa 1880, 15.0cm long, in original burgundy velvet fitted case by Garrard & Co.
Accompanied by report No. 57830 dated 15 November 2010 from the SSEF Swiss Gemmological Institute stating the origin of three sapphires is Burma and of two is Ceylon. Eleven pearls were tested and all found to be natural saltwater

Specialist note

The 1887 inventory indicates that the stomacher brooch was made at an earlier date than the tiara.
