A FAN OWNED BY MARY TODD LINCOLN.
Extends to 12 x 23½ inches. Consisting of two thick tortoise-shell side shafts hinged with 14 thinner, narrow tortoise-shell sticks; held together with a 7-inch wide strip of fine-quality, black, hand-made lace; a circular tortoise-shell ring at bottom. The box covered and lined with dark red silk, arched top, 12.3 x 1 x 1¾ inches. Interior of lid with gilt-lettered label of DUVELLEROY, Paris and London, 167 Regent Street. Lace with a few tiny tears and a few sticks detached from lace, the box a bit worn.
A very elegant and no doubt quite extensive fan from the noted Parisian fan maker, Duvelleroy.
