Specialist note

In an age of grand royal events, few - if any - were more spectacular than the great 'Reviews of the Fleet' staged to celebrate Coronations and significant royal anniversaries. The last such event before the outbreak of the Great War was the Coronation Review for King George V, held on 24th June 1911, two days after the Coronation ceremony. The King and Queen, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, embarked in the Victoria & Albert in the early afternoon and the yacht then steamed slowly through the lines containing 167 ships of the Royal Navy and 18 foreign warships, before returning to harbour at 5.00 p.m.
