Specialist note

As a result of the failing and blighted potato crops in 1847 the price of bread in St Helier reached exorbitant levels and sparked what became known as the Jersey Bread Riots, which at the time seemed that they would assume dangerous proportions. The mob infact went so far as to over power the workers at the Town Mills, situated at Robin Hood, and the military were called in making a stand near the Robin Hood Tavern to quell the situation.
