"Never did friend or relation watch with more eagerness the vessel that brought back from a perilous voyage, the object of their affections, than the crowds who from the heights sought to catch the first glimpse of the richly freighted vessel. At last the Victoria and Albert, with its attendants, the Black Eagle, the Fairy and the Garland, rounded Noirmont Point, and anchored in the outer Roads, a salute being given from Elizabeth Castle, just as the sun threw forth his last beams over the surrounding landscape. Never was there a more beautiful prospect. The setting sun spreading on the surface of the waters as a sheet of waving gold, which again reflected from that bright surface, seemed to envelope the Royal Squadron in a dazzling flood of light."
