The upper doors opening to oyster-veneered walnut drawers surrounding a door enclosing further oyster-veneered walnut drawers, the lower portion with a secretaire drawer above three long drawers, with 19th century enameled and rope-twist ring pulls to exterior, on later bun feet, bearing an old pencil inscription (possibly 18th century) to interior Lairy

Specialist note

This elaborately inlaid cabinet on chest was purchased by Lieutenant-Colonel G. B. Winch for Boughton Monchelsea Place, the house and estate he leased in 1903, and his heir and nephew, Michael Winch, subsequently purchased in 1960. The house dates from the Norman conquest with significant improvements made by 1575 and again around 1800. The cabinet was purchased in 1923 at a sale at Yotes Court, near Maidstone, together with 39 other lots for £838.11s, and the sale invoice and catalogue survive.
