Specialist note
Salmon was the son of the painter Théodore Frédéric Salmon and the father of the poet and art critic André Salmon. He studied under Barye, Hédouin and Gaucherel and made his début at the Salon in 1859. As a sculptor he produced bronzes of animals, but later abandoned this for etching.
