The flaring rim inscribed inscribed GISBERT ARENDES UNDE IDE SIN HVS FROV 1592, the frieze decorated with flowers, beads and rosettes, stylized animal handles; with associated pestle

Specialist note

A mortar with similar inscription dated 1597 and another mortar with almost identical frieze decoration by Wegewaert are in Wittop II, p. 51, nr. 7 and illustration 40.
