Specialist note

Considered to be a great artist by his contemporaries, Orizzonte produced some of the finest classical landscape paintings in Rome during the first half of the 18th century. These very rare and intimate imaginary views of the campagna romana on copper have been described by Busiri Vici as painted in the 'più puro stile impressionistico del van Bloemen'. He praised them for their 'alta qualità pittorica' (op. cit.).
