Flattened rectangular box with cut corners, the cover inset with a glazed miniature on ivory of a classical allegory of Music with putti in a woodland scene, gold mount and push-piece, marcasite border on cover, the interior lined with green velvet and the cover set with a mirror; together with, a flattened oblong box, the cover applied with three bands of gold piqué-point comprised of small and large pellets, gold push-piece, the interior lined with spearmint green velvet and the cover set with a mirror

The larger box: possibly that purchased on 8 September 1792 from T. Kirkup, Jeweller of 'Le Magazin' St. James's Place - 'A Rich Ivory toothpick case £8.18s.6d.' - by a member of the Spencer family.
The smaller box: Charles Robert, 6th Earl Spencer (1857-1922), by whom brought to Althorp in 1911.
