MENDELSSOHN BARTHOLDY, Felix (1809-1847). Autograph letter signed ('Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy') to [the singer Sophie Schloss], Leipzig, 2 November 1846, asking her to attend a rehearsal of the finale from Weber's Euryanthe at the Gewandhaus on the following Wednesday 'so früh als möglich', having previously studied her part with the utmost attention, 'so as to be absolutely secure in bar, notes etc. The piece is hard ...; if you are absolutely sure in your part, it will go well; otherwise it will be impossible', reemphasising therefore the importance of her preparation, especially as the Mozart aria is to be held back for another occasion ('Das Stück ist schwer ...; wenn Sie also in Ihrer Partie vollkommen sicher sind, so wird es gut gehen; ohne das aber wäre es unmöglich'), one page, 8vo, on a bifolium.
First published in the appendix to the Erinnerungen an Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy of Elise Polko (Leipzig, 1868).
