Lot 32 CHATEAU TROTANOY
Château Trotanoy is located on the western edge of the Pomerol plateau. The estate has seven hectares of vineyards planted with 90 Merlot and 10 Cabernet Franc. Stephen Brook writing in The Complete Bordeaux stated "Trotanoy is unquestionably one of the greatest wines of Pomerol, and produced some highly esteemed wines in the 1960s and 1970s". The 1971 Trotanoy is undoubtedly one of the wines of the vintage and continues to offer delight to those lucky enough to drink a bottle.

Tasting Note: I remember this dark garnet-coloured wine being absolutely delicious in the mid-1970s, and every time I go back to it, it seems to improve in the bottle. It is still superb, with gobs of velvety, ripe, decadent Merlot fruit, an opulent texture, and a long, full-bodied, heady finish. This is among the finest wines of the vintage (eclipsed only by Pétrus). Given how long it has been able to rest at its apogee, I may be wrong in saying it should be consumed.
