signed and dated 'LEMOINE 1791' (upper right)
on ivory
3 in. (76 mm.) diam., gold mount

Hôtel Drouot, Paris, room 2, 12 February 1993, lot 32 (then on a blonde tortoiseshell box).

Specialist note

The sitter wears the uniform of a cavalry officer of the regiment of Queen Marie-Antoinette. The 1993 sale catalogue pointed out that the cockade is still white, and not tricolore.
