on ivory
rectangular, 3 5/8 x 3 in. (95 x 75 mm.), gilt-metal frame with ivory border, surmounted by pierced scrolling ribbon and laurel wreath

Christie's, London, 21 November 2000, lot 261 (as 'A young lady').

Specialist note

It has been suggested that the present miniature depicts Mlle Gaspard-Pauline Mollien on comparison with a double-portrait in the Louvre by George Rouget (1784-1869), in which she appears alongside her sister, Mlle Françoise-Elisabeth Mollien.
