Shaped oblong, the tapering nephrite blade with gold openwork scroll and trellis mount, the bud finial set with a rock crystal cabochon, marked on mount, in original fitted box, the cover stamped in Russian 'Fabergé St. Petersburg Moscow Odessa' beneath the Imperial warrant
6½ in. (16.5 cm.) long

The Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, purchased 11 February 1904.
The Baron Enrico di Portanova collection, sold Christie's, New York, 25 October 2000, lot 500.
Acquired at the above sale by the present owner.

Specialist note

According to research undertaken by Valentin Skurlov, the present paper knife was purchased from Fabergé by the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, mother of Emperor Nicholas II, for 70 roubles on 11 February 1904.
