FÉLIX VALLOTTON (1865-1925)

Félix Vallotton bildet in seiner Jeune femme assise de profil ein Bild im Bild ab. Er zeigt auf der linken Bildseite die Lithographie La pâtisserie von Edouard Vuillard aus dem Jahr 1899. Ein Abzug, den Vuillard seinem Künstlerfreund Vallotton gewidmet und dieser bis an sein Lebensende behalten hatte. Vallotton und Vuillard hatten sich 1888 an der Académie Julian in Paris kennengelernt und waren noch im gleichen Jahr der Künstlergruppe Nabis beigetreten.


Félix Vallotton depicts a picture within a picture in his Jeune femme assise de profil. It shows on the left side of the painting the lithograph, La pâtisserie, by Edouard Vuillard from the year 1899. A print, which Vuillard dedicated to his artist friend and Vallotton treasured to the end of his life. Vallotton and Vuillard became acquainted with each other in 1888 at the Académie Julian in Paris and in the same year joined the artist group, Nabis.
