The rounded rectangular seat with cylinder ends, on turned tapering legs, with chalk inscription '235' and 'DAR', impressed 'B. T ...', probably originally with an impressed brass label for Benjamin Taylor & Sons
20 in. (51 cm.) high; 36 in. (91.5 cm.) wide; 13½ in. (34.5 cm.) deep

Specialist note

Benjamin Taylor & Sons were active in Southwark from 1805-1873 and a set of chairs of robust design bears a similarly impressed stamp (C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, pp. 52 & 446).
