The shaped rectangular top above five drawers with rocaille handles and a gadrooned lower edge, the kneehole with flowerhead-carved C-scroll brackets, on square legs with foliate C-scroll brackets, the handles original

Specialist note

The mahogany dressing-table shares certain stylistic elements with works attributed to the Wakefield cabinet-makers Messrs. Wright and Elwick. The gadrooned lower edge to the frieze and the foliate brackets relate to similar features on a kneehole dressing-cabinet almost certainly supplied by Wright & Elwick to Sir Rowland Winn for Nostell Priory, Yorksire before 1767, and likewise its near-identical counterpart at Wentworth Woodhouse, sold Christie's, London, 8 July 1998, lot 70.
Two closely related breakfront dressing-tables in a private collection are also attributed to the same cabinet-makers.
