Specialist note
In the late 1950s and early 1960s Grace Hartigan did a pivotal series of highly colorful paintings that celebrated lyricism in nature. Clarks Cove near Rockland, Maine was a favorite summer retreat for Grace Hartigan and her new husband, Wynston Price and served as the inspiration for this marvelous painting. According to her biographer Robert S. Mattison, "Hartigan believed Clark's Cove 1962 to be one of her most important paintings from this period."
