A RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER SMOKER'S COMPENDIUM IN A WOODEN BOX
BEARING MARKS FOR THE FIFTH ARTEL, MOSCOW, 1908-1917
Comprising one cigar box and cigarette box, an ashtray, a match-box case and a cigar-cutter; all rectangular, two trompe l'oeil boxes with the hinged covers and sides chased and engraved to simulate wood grain, tax bands and Imperial coat-of-arms, inscribed in Russian 'Tobacco Cigars' and with the manufacturer's label 'Rosso A. Korkunov factory in Moscow', the ashtray similarly decorated with simulated wood grain pattern, the match-box case and cigar-cutter engraved 'Rosso', gilt interiors, marked inside covers and on sides, contained in fitted wooden box lined with pink velvet, the hinged cover and sides inlaid with geometric parquetry, the inside applied with a plaque with Russian inscription 'To the merchant of the 1st Guild G. S. Goldman for good work and on the occasion of his birthday from the Saratov Managing Director General-Mayor Prince I. P. Meshcherskii 1902'.
