AN ENGLISH ORMOLU-MOUNTED SATINWOOD, HAREWOOD, AMARANTH, SYCAMORE AND IVORY PARQUETRY ENCOIGNURE

The high quality construction, fine anthemion marquetry and blond veneers to this corner-cabinet are typical of the work of the prolific and distinguished Victorian cabinet-makers: Holland & Sons. The marquetry pattern is similar to that on a pair of tables, one of which is in the collection of the V&A, the other at Lotherton House, which are thought to have originally been commissioned for Osborne House or Windsor Castle (see C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam and Lotherton Hall, Vol. II, N°. 432, London, London, 1978, p. 345.)
