Fateh Moudarres (Syrian, 1922-1999)

This is a rare early self portrait by Fateh Moudarres was painted during his studies at the Fine Art Academy in Rome. This intriguing painting blends his abstracted style - later to characterize much of his work- notably the human figure and the the cat in the background, with a rather more realistic depiction of his own facial features.
