A LADY'S 18K GOLD AND DIAMOND TONNEAU-SHAPED WRISTWATCH, BY CARTIER
With quartz movement, cream textured dial with gold applied Roman and dot numerals and hands, the tonneau-shaped case with diamond-set bezel, extended lugs, diamond-set crown, together with an 18K gold Cartier grain of rice bracelet with deployant clasp, case, dial and movement signed, 15.0 cm total length
Signed Cartier, model: Tortue, no. 660360531, circa 1985
The tonneau-shaped "tortue a pattes" or "turtle on legs" wristwatch was designed by Cartier around 1910. The shape of the case was made to resemble a turtle, a very popular animal during this era and symbol of good fortune and longevity in many civilisations.
