Sir Peter Markham Scott (British, 1909-1989)

This magnificent, monumental work by Scott was presumably executed as a commission, and there is little else on such a scale comparable in his oeuvre. Very much a tour de force of the artist's work, it is testament to his skill that such a large canvas can resonate so successfully with atmosphere and movement. He successfully captures the peaceful comings and goings of the inland waterway and the variety of birds inhabiting such a small area of countryside, the subject so close to the artist's heart.
