MAKER'S MARK ONLY STRUCK TWICE, UNTRACED, PLH IN SHAPED PUNCH, (first 2 letters conjoined), NORWEGIAN OR DANISH, PROBABLY 1ST HALF OF 18TH CENTURY
Cylindrical on three ball & claw feet, pierced scrolling foliate decoration centred by mask above each foot, handle with central rib, terminating in an escutcheon prick-dot engraved with weight W. 56 Lod, cover engraved with scrolling flowers & eagles around a centrally-set Austrian thaler of Archduke Charles, dated 1623, the thumbpiece formed as a crowned rampant lion supporting a ball, a later English presentation inscription sympathetically engraved around sides
