Specialist note

The design for this games table relates to a design for a 'work table in the French style', published by T. King in 1829. The design was widely copied in India and Ceylon, and a two related tables with octagonal tops, one carved in sandalwood and the other carved in ebony, are illustrated in A. Jaffer, Furniture from British India and Ceylon, 2001, p. 154, pl. 16 and p. 372, pl. 181.
