Specialist note

Green studied at the Slade (1956-1960). His first solo exhibition was held in 1962 at the Juda Rowan Gallery and he has since exhibited in many major and group shows worldwide, including retrospectives at the Royal Academy of Arts (1978) and in Japan (1987-88).
Green's work chronicles his family and domestic life. His work is often painted on irregular-shaped supports and shaped into segments to reflect his interest in the workings of the human mind and the relation between memory and vision. Green considers that the pictures in his mind have no edges and therefore cannot be contained within a rectangular form.
