Painted with sprays of fruit, nuts and flowers within quatrefoil cartouches gilt with scrolls and issuing flowers, the stems cast with bands of stiff-leaves above ribbon-tied reeds on square-section bases, each with small crack to rim

Specialist note

The popularity of 'Rose Pompadour' in the 19th century, especially amongst English collectors, led to the embelishment of many pieces of Sèvres porcelain with the addition of more popular ground colours, more elaborate decoration and luxurious ormolu mounts. Probably the best known of the London dealers in objects from the Ancien Régime was Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1846).
