Specialist note
Three commodes by Mathäus Funk (1697-1783) which closely follow the French Louis XV prototype are illustrated in in Hermann von Fischer, Fonck a Berne, Bern, 2001, page 95, plates 148-150. Each of these also have the characteristic central angle mount with dragons which also adorn the present commode. Another peculiarity which would not be found so readely on French or German commodes is the use of walnut veneer on such a prestigeous piece of furniture, Funk however uses walnut on the majority of his cabinet furniture.
