A DUTCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY TEA TABLE

This finely made tea-table with its delicate beading is strongly related to a mhogany commode attributed to Horrix, sold in these rooms on 3 April 2007, lot 181. This commode is decorated with raised scrolling beading in the same striking way as is the case on the present table. The commode could be attributed to the the Hague cabinet maker Matthijs Horrix (1735-1809). Horrix was probably the most succesfull cabinetmaker in the Netherlands in the second half of the 18th century. He specialised in Dutch furniture made in the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. Horrix' furniture is always made to a high standard as can be seen on the present tea-table with its solid mahogany top, drawer front and legs.
