How to sell

Master I.A.M. of Zwolle (1440-1504)
The Adoration of the Magi (Hollstein 1; Lehrs VII.1)
engraving, 1490, without watermark, a delicate impression of this very rare print, printing with clarity, if somewhat dryly, trimmed within the platemark just outside the borderline, lacking the monogramme in the lower margin, the fillet of blank paper outside the borderline skilfully made up, with an occasional nick to the sheet edges, a small repair to the fragment of wall at the right of the kneeling king, a tiny plugged hole on the lowest hoof of the foremost horse in the left subject, a thinly backed horizontal fold at the centre, occasional surface losses and thin spots
S. 354 x 241 mm.

Fürst von Lichtenstein (not in Lugt).
With Colnaghi's, London.

Specialist note

This impression of the Master's most beautiful and important composition is one of only 24 known to Lehrs. In his catalogue Lehr's records this particular example as 'Matt und restauriert' (matt and restored), but considers only seven impressions as good, of which just three have survived in good condition (Berlin, Dresden and Vienna). It is hence extremely rare for this print to come to the market and none have been offered at auction within the last three decades.
