Of German origin, Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811- circa 1885) moved to Paris in 1840 and established his workshops at 39, rue Saint Sebastian, where in 1870 they numbered around 600 employees.During the mid-19th Century, Diehl participated in the major International exhibitions, conceived to promote the decorative arts, starting with the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park in 1851, and was awarded medals in 1855 and 1861. He was awarded the hors-concours at the 1878 Exhibition.
